Provider Prologue

Hey Guys! Happy “I Love to Write Day!” lol so it’s finally about that time… Most of you know I’ve been spending a majority of my time pouring hours into this Graphic Novel/Webcomic called Jambalaya Mixtape presents Provider over the past year and it’s definitely been one hell of a ride! I came up with the basic premise for Provider one summer after high school with by best friend, James, years ago in my bedroom while also pouring hours into video games, binging on junk food, and me peer-pressuring him to smoke weed everyday. That’s what we did, that was fun to us. Drawing comics and listening to music all day, at that time in particular a bunch of N.E.R.D. One of my favorite songs from their album In Search Of… was called “Provider” we used to play it on repeat and if you can’t tell from the title of this comic it was a huge inspiration for this story.

A little longer than a year ago I started studying. I ordered books, I watched tutorials on youtube, combed through a billion websites, listened to audio books, went to conventions, talked to other writers. Anything I could do to learn more about storytelling, making comics, page design, getting published, building a fan base. You name it! I was eager for knowledge, and once I had my arsenal of information and I felt like the story was going in the right direction, I hit the ground runnin’.

Oh great, another “post-apocalyptic” story…. I know, I know, I get it. But can you please give me a chance first? Lol I promise this post-apocalyptic story is unlike any other post-apocalyptic story you ever read before. Once we decided on the collective title of Jambalaya Mixtape for our anthology, I decided to try to apply that to my story by mixing in a bunch of off-set themes and genres into a pot and seeing what type of awesomeness we get out of it to add to the story. Which actually resulted in something so genuinely unique in the world of graphic novels. At least I’d like to think so. I’ve always liked the juxtaposition of analog vs digital, something old being placed the future. Which got my gears ticking, “what if we did a blaxploitation story placed in a post-apocalyptic setting, with like anime style fighting and action? Sounded pretty awesome to me…

Since I’ve already posted a few of these pages/panels on my social media, I’ve figured it’d only be right to share the first five pages with you all online for the launch of Jambalaya Mixtape presents Provider. At it’s free! For the most part, but we’ll get to that later… (Physical printed copies coming soon) I’ll be posting a new Comic Page coming every TUESDAY, so be sure to mark your calendars! I hope you all find that this Science-Fiction Noir is full of bloody violence and gritty humor but most importantly I hope you enjoy! Please share and leave a comment, I’ll be sure to answer any questions 🙂
